The Auditorium of the Gardens of Cerro de San Cristóbal will host the 'Noches del Cerro' on September 25 and 26 at 21:00, with free entry. The first night will feature José Luis Jaén and the second will pay tribute to musicians from the region.
The Vélez-Málaga City Council, through the Department of Culture, has organised the 'Noches del Cerro', two concerts taking place on September 25 and 26 at 21:00 in the Auditorium of the Gardens of Cerro de San Cristóbal. Entry will be free until capacity is reached.
The Councillor for Culture, Alicia Ramírez, explained that the initiative aims to provide cultural content to a space suitable for outdoor music and to offer different proposals from the usual municipal programming.
"We want to close the cultural summer in a special way, reclaiming the Auditorium of the Cerro as a stage for music and accommodating artists and styles that have much to offer and that do not always have a presence in our programming," Ramírez stated.
The first night, on Friday, September 25, will be headlined by the Almerian singer José Luis Jaén, a finalist in two editions of the 'Tierra de Talento' programme on Canal Sur and a participant in 'Cover Night' on TVE. His repertoire blends flamenco, copla, bolero, tango, and jazz, and he has collaborated with artists such as Zenet, María Peláe, Arcángel, Estrella Morente, Tomatito, and Israel Fernández.
The councillor highlighted that Jaén "is an artist with a very personal voice, with a way of interpreting that connects with very different audiences and that we believe fits perfectly with the spirit of these nights."
On Saturday, September 26, 'Concert in Paradise' will take place, an evening dedicated to recognising the careers of musicians and groups linked to Vélez-Málaga and the region. On stage, formations such as Funkonauts, Jazz Fusión All Stars, La Custom Band, and Estación Zero will come together, alongside musicians like Antonio Lagos and Javier Paixariño.
Paixariño, based in Vélez-Málaga, has collaborated throughout his career with artists such as Kevin Ayers, Gerardo Núñez, Miguel Ríos, Joaquín Sabina, Luis Eduardo Aute, Víctor Manuel, Ana Belén, and Luis Pastor. The night will include a special tribute to Eduardo Arroyo, co-founder of La Custom Band and recently deceased, during the group's performance. The musical direction will be led by Jesús Aranda, director of the Modern Music School of Axarquía.
"The quality and trajectory of the musicians we have in our land, many of whom have very important careers and yet do not always have the opportunity to share the stage in an event like this," Ramírez emphasised.
The programme will culminate with a jam session featuring the musicians of the night. The concerts will take place on September 25 and 26 at 21:00 in the Auditorium of the Gardens of Cerro de San Cristóbal, with free entry.
