The Auditorium of the Gardens of Cerro de San Cristóbal will host the Noches del Cerro on September 25 and 26, at 21:00, with free entry. José Luis Jaén will perform on Friday, and on Saturday there will be a tribute to local rock and jazz.
The Auditorium of the Gardens of Cerro de San Cristóbal is once again a musical stage in Vélez-Málaga. The Department of Culture has scheduled the Noches del Cerro for September 25 and 26, starting at 21:00, featuring two evenings with free entry and different proposals, as reported by Diario Sur.
The Councillor for Culture, Alicia Ramírez (PP), explains that the intention is to "provide cultural content to a space with privileged conditions to enjoy music outdoors." In the same vein, she adds that they want to "close the cultural summer in a special way, recovering the Auditorium of the Cerro as a stage for music and accommodating artists and styles that have much to contribute and that do not always have a presence in our programming."
On Friday the 25th, the Almerian singer José Luis Jaén will open the bill, with several decades of experience and a repertoire that blends flamenco, copla, bolero, tango, and jazz. Jaén was a finalist in two editions of the Tierra de Talento programme on Canal Sur and later participated in Cover Night on TVE. He has shared the stage or collaborated with Zenet, María Peláe, Arcángel, Estrella Morente, Tomatito, and Israel Fernández. The councillor describes him as an artist "with a very personal voice."
The second night, Saturday the 26th, will feature the Concert in Paradise, a recognition of musicians and bands from Vélez-Málaga and the region who have been involved in rock, blues, soul, and jazz for years. Funkonauts, Jazz Fusión All Stars, La Custom Band, and Estación Zero will perform, along with musicians such as Antonio Lagos and Javier Paixariño.
Paixariño, based in Vélez-Málaga, has collaborated throughout his career with Kevin Ayers, Gerardo Núñez, Miguel Ríos, Joaquín Sabina, Luis Eduardo Aute, Víctor Manuel, and Ana Belén or Luis Pastor, among others.
The evening will include a special tribute to Eduardo Arroyo, co-founder of La Custom Band and recently deceased, during the group's performance. The musical direction and coordination are in charge of Jesús Aranda, a musician and director of the Modern Music School of Axarquía, who has participated in the configuration of the event and in bringing the artists together.
The closing will be a joint jam session with the musicians who have performed during the night. Both events are free until full capacity is reached at the Auditorium of the Gardens of Cerro de San Cristóbal.
