The City Council of Rincón de la Victoria has activated extraordinary measures in response to the high-risk period for forest fires, including a ban on fireworks and a call for civic responsibility.
The City Council of Rincón de la Victoria has implemented a package of extraordinary prevention and awareness measures in light of the current high-risk period for forest fires. This action is in line with the guidelines from the General Directorate of Emergencies and Civil Protection of the Junta de Andalucía and affects the entire municipal area, including the forest influence zone.
The mayor, Francisco Salado, has made a direct appeal to residents and visitors: “prevention is the most effective tool” to prevent a small incident from escalating into an emergency. Salado has emphasized that high temperatures, prolonged heat periods, low humidity, and wind increase the risk of fire spread, thus urging “a preventive and vigilant attitude.”
The Councillor for Civil Protection, Pepi Carnero, has insisted on the need to respect the current restrictions and avoid any behaviour that could generate sparks or flames. Among the prohibitions are the launching, use, or firing of fireworks, rockets, firecrackers, flares, flame balloons, and other pyrotechnic devices in forested areas and their influence zones.
Fireworks displays or celebrations involving pyrotechnic materials will also not be authorized when it is not legally possible or when they may compromise the safety of people or the natural environment. All these measures are outlined in the Municipal Decree, which can be consulted on the City Council's website.
Carnero has reminded that in the event of any column of smoke or fire outbreak, one should immediately notify 112, thus facilitating a quick response from emergency services.
Failure to comply with the regulations may result in fines of up to 450,000 euros according to Law 5/1999 on the Prevention and Fight against Forest Fires, in addition to prison sentences ranging from one to 20 years as stipulated in the Penal Code.
For the local residents, the recommendation is clear: exercise extreme caution in mountainous areas and natural spaces, avoid any activities involving fire, and cooperate with emergency services at any sign of smoke.
