Benagalbón protests over delay of prefabricated classrooms at their school

Families from Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria school in Benagalbón denounce the delay of four prefabricated modules and the accessibility issues affecting an 8-year-old girl with reduced mobility.

The families of third and fourth-grade students at Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria school in Benagalbón (Rincón de la Victoria) have gathered at the school gates and in front of the Education Delegation of the Junta de Andalucía to demand the urgent installation of four prefabricated modules. According to Diario Sur, these spaces were supposed to temporarily replace classrooms affected by "serious deficiencies" in the main building, but the work has been delayed.

The most delicate situation is faced by an 8-year-old girl with mobility and vision problems. In her temporary classroom, she cannot access the medical supplies she needs daily, and to open the classroom door, desks must be moved. The families also report that, against the technical advice and her tutor's recommendations, she has been changed to a different group, breaking the "safety bubble" that had supported her integration since the beginning of her schooling.

“Even with the prefabricated classrooms, the obstacles she faces would not be resolved,” warn the families, who demand a truly adapted classroom and that the student returns to her group.

The Ministry of Education maintains that the modules will be installed by the end of this term. The Junta explains that the Rincón de la Victoria Town Hall has taken care of the foundations and connections, which are now completed, while the Andalusian government is responsible for the planning, administrative procedures, and contracting for their placement. The temporary relocation, they add, is being carried out in the main building of the school with guarantees and coordinated by the management and technicians of the Andalusian Public Education Agency.
