The Nerja Town Council is requesting an immediate solution from the Provincial Council of Málaga to approve the modified project for the new Municipal Library. The works remain halted due to technical discrepancies between the authors and provincial technicians.
The construction of the new Municipal Library of Nerja is still on hold. The reason is the technical discrepancies between the authors of the modified project and the technicians from the Provincial Council of Málaga. The work was suspended after unforeseen circumstances arose in the subsoil of the site, which necessitated the search for new construction solutions.
After reaching a consensus on an alternative between the contractor, the technical management, and municipal technicians, the Governing Board authorised the drafting of a modified project. This document includes a new foundation using micropiles, changes to the containment system, and the adaptation of the project to the actual geometry of the site.
The modified project was presented to the Town Council and received favourable reports from the municipal architect and the head of the Infrastructure Service. On June 4, it was sent to the Technical Project Supervision Office of the Provincial Council. Since that date, the provincial institution has issued three unfavourable reports with their corresponding requests for corrections, which prevents the completion of the processing for its approval.
The mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, considers these disagreements to be incomprehensible and the delays they cause unacceptable. Therefore, he demands an immediate solution from the involved technicians to unblock the situation, approve the modified project, and resume the works on the Municipal Library.
The project is co-financed by the Nerja Town Council and the Provincial Council of Málaga. The halt will continue until the technical discrepancies are resolved and the modified document is approved.
