Nerja's council has approved the transfer of a space on Antonio Jiménez Street to the Andalusian Employment Service. The new office, covering 387 square metres, will replace the current one and improve services for job seekers.

The Nerja Town Council has given the green light to the transfer of a municipal space to the Andalusian Employment Service (SAE), which will enable the creation of a new employment office in the municipality. The property, located on the ground floor of the building at 2 Antonio Jiménez Street, spans 387 square metres and will offer larger, more modern, and accessible facilities than the current ones.

The proposal was approved with votes in favour from the PP and abstentions from the PSOE and Podemos-Izquierda Unida con Nerja. The mayor, José Alberto Armijo, emphasised that "this agreement reflects the Town Council's commitment to improving public services and employment, facilitating access for residents of Nerja and Maro to better facilities tailored to current needs."

A 50-year transfer that guarantees service stability

The councillor for Employment, Ángela Díaz, explained that the transfer is formalised through an external domain mutation, a legal figure that allows a public municipal asset to be transferred to another administration without the Town Council losing ownership of the property. The agreement provides for a transfer period of 50 years, ensuring the long-term stability of public employment services in Nerja.

The SAE has been providing its services in Nerja for over four decades, offering job placement, professional guidance, job offer management, training, business consulting, and support for job seekers. The new office will enhance the quality of these services and respond to the increase in users recorded in recent years.

Works already completed and next steps

Following the SAE's instructions, the Town Hall has already executed and received the works to separate the ground floor from the rest of the building and has processed the domain mutation file, which culminated in the approval of the plenary agreement. Now, the next step is for the Junta de Andalucía to express its agreement to the arrangement, after which both administrations will sign the agreement for the use of the space.

For the residents of Nerja, this means that in the coming months they will have access to a more modern employment office with better access, which is especially important for people with reduced mobility. The location, in the heart of the urban centre, will also facilitate walking or public transport access. The Town Council hopes that the administrative process will be completed before the end of the year, although no specific date has been set for the public opening.

In the meantime, the current SAE office will continue to operate normally until the relocation takes place. Interested parties can check the hours and services on the Andalusian Employment Service website. The transfer of this space is an example of collaboration between administrations to improve public services at no additional cost to the municipality.
