El Borge, in the Axarquía, is preparing to celebrate this Sunday, September 20th, the 29th Day of the Raisin, an event that highlights agricultural heritage and local traditions.
Details of the Festivity
The territorial delegate for Agriculture, Water, Fishing and Rural Development, Laura Soto, along with the mayor of El Borge, Raúl Vallejo, have presented the programme of activities that will take place during the day. It is expected that 5,000 bags of raisins will be distributed and 1,000 litres of wine will be offered to visitors.
Laura Soto highlighted the importance of the muscat grape cultivation in the region, which supports around 2,000 families and has approximately 800 producers working on about 1,700 hectares of vineyards. This crop has been recognised by the FAO as an Important Agricultural Heritage System.
Scheduled Activities
Mayor Raúl Vallejo announced a festive programme that will begin in the morning with the opening of the Bandolero Gallery and a traditional parade. Local tasks, such as the picking and sorting of grapes, will be demonstrated live in the Plaza de la Constitución.
The day will also include a free gastronomic tasting with 800 portions of typical dishes prepared in the municipality. The afternoon will culminate in a flamenco evening, featuring several local artists.
During the event, the City Council will award recognitions to various individuals and groups who have contributed to the development and culture of the municipality. This year, Emilio Alba Conejo will be named Godfather of the Day of the Raisin, and other prominent community members will be honoured.
The authorities have encouraged the public to attend and enjoy this celebration, which contributes to the preservation of traditions, the promotion of rural tourism, and the revitalisation of the local economy.
