The municipal company Aguas del Torcal has presented a third vehicle for washing and cleaning the streets of Antequera, with an investment of 72,000 euros. The truck, which is already operational, strengthens a service that operates daily on between 12 and 15 streets.
Antequera now has three vehicles dedicated to washing and cleaning its streets. The latest, acquired for 72,000 euros, was presented this Wednesday by the mayor, Manolo Barón, and the deputy mayor, José Manuel Fernández, alongside Aguas del Torcal technician Francisco Castillo.
The new truck is equipped with a high-pressure washing system with a capacity of 1,500 litres of water and a working pressure of about 200 bars. Additionally, it can use hot water, a feature designed to eliminate tough stains or those stuck to the pavement.
A fleet that adapts to the city's needs
With this addition, Aguas del Torcal's washing fleet consists of three vehicles: two light ones, which can access narrow streets and specific points, and a larger tank for wide streets and irrigation. The second light vehicle was acquired four years ago.
Currently, between six and eight workers participate daily in cleaning tasks, operating on between 12 and 15 streets each day. During the summer, when rainfall is scarce, the service is reinforced to keep public spaces in optimal condition.
Call for citizen collaboration
Mayor Manolo Barón took the opportunity of the presentation to call on citizens, especially pet owners, to bring water and dilute their animals' urine. “A well-washed street cannot be dirty again just four or five days later,” he pointed out.
Barón reminded that the municipal ordinance related to this matter has already surpassed the public exposure period and is in the final stages of processing, awaiting approval in an upcoming Plenary session. Deputy mayor José Manuel Fernández warned that the repeated accumulation of urine is causing stains that are increasingly difficult to remove.
Fernández highlighted the “hard and constant” work of Aguas del Torcal staff and emphasized that never before has Antequera had three washing vehicles. This investment, he said, responds to the analysis of the current needs of the city.
The deputy mayor also extended the call for collaboration in the collection of furniture and belongings, reminding that anyone can request their free removal by calling Aguas del Torcal. Additionally, he urged businesses and residents to properly dispose of cardboard waste by folding boxes before placing them in containers to avoid accumulations.
Looking ahead to the Andalucía Antequera Light Fest
Fernández reminded that this weekend the Andalucía Antequera Light Fest 2026 will take place, an event that will attract thousands of visitors. “The city belongs to everyone and it should be a source of pride for all of us to keep it clean and tidy,” he stated.
Residents of Antequera can request the free removal of furniture and belongings by calling Aguas del Torcal, a service that prevents these items from being abandoned on sidewalks and obstructing the passage of people with reduced mobility.
