The Málaga municipality of Álora has recorded 42.3 degrees, the second highest temperature in Spain this Friday, surpassed only by Cieza (Murcia). The heatwave is expected to last at least until next Thursday.

The thermometer at the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) station in Álora marked 42.3 degrees this Friday, the second highest temperature in the country, just behind Cieza's 42.4. The province of Málaga is thus experiencing its first major peak of a heatwave that, according to forecasts, will last at least until next Thursday.

It has not been the only Málaga municipality to exceed the 40-degree mark. Cortes de la Frontera reached 40.8; Coín 40.4; Manilva 40.2; and Alpandeire just hit 40.0 degrees. In total, five localities in the province have surpassed 40, a figure that Aemet expects to be repeated over the weekend.

Orange and yellow alerts for the weekend

Friday has left the entire province under alert: orange in the capital, the Western Costa del Sol, and the Guadalhorce Valley, and yellow in the rest of the regions. For Saturday, Aemet maintains yellow alerts in Antequera, Sol, and Guadalhorce between 13:00 and 20:59, with maximums expected of 39 degrees in the Antequera region and 37 in the other two areas, although in the interior of Guadalhorce, temperatures could reach 39.

On Sunday, the yellow alert extends to the Serranía de Ronda, Antequera, the capital, the western coast, and Guadalhorce. In Ronda, 38 degrees are expected; in Antequera, 39; and in Sol and Guadalhorce, 37, with the possibility that municipalities inland may exceed this forecast by two degrees.

The councillor urges caution amid a "worrying" heatwave

The first vice president and councillor for the Presidency, Health, and Emergencies of the Junta de Andalucía, Antonio Sanz, has described the heatwave as "worrying, intense, and extensive" and has urged the population to exercise extreme caution. He noted that the peak is expected next Thursday, and the dangerous situation will persist at least until the following weekend. Since the high-temperature protocol was activated, the autonomous community has attended to nearly 1,300 emergencies related to heat.

Recommendations for residents of the province

The Junta de Andalucía and the Emergency Security and Management Agency (EMA) remind that the most vulnerable groups —children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses— should be closely monitored. It is essential that they drink water regularly even if they are not thirsty, and that they avoid going outside during the hottest hours of the day. Light and fresh meals are also recommended, along with avoiding alcohol and keeping windows, curtains, and blinds closed on the facades most exposed to the sun.

In case of any warning symptoms such as dizziness, headache, or disorientation, the councillor has urged calling the emergency number 112. The heatwave shows no mercy in the province of Málaga, and thermometers will continue to register extreme figures in the coming days.
