The Málaga municipality of Álora has reached 41.7 degrees this Saturday, the highest in the country. Manilva has also made it to the podium with 41.5 degrees.

The thermometer in Álora recorded 41.7 degrees at 17:40, according to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). This figure positions the municipality in the Guadalhorce Valley as the warmest spot in all of Spain during Saturday.

It was not the only town in the province to stand out. Manilva, on the Western Costa del Sol, recorded 41.5 degrees at 16:20, taking second place in the national ranking. The podium is completed by Granada city, with 41.3 degrees at the Cartuja station.

The episode of extreme heat affects a large part of Andalusia, but Málaga province has borne the brunt. Temperatures have widely exceeded 40 degrees in several localities, confirming the intensity of the heatwave hitting the southern peninsula.

Recommendations for extreme heat

Health authorities remind us of the importance of taking precautions during the hottest hours of the day. Avoid sun exposure between 12:00 and 18:00, drink water frequently, and stay in cool places are some of the basic guidelines.

Particular attention should be given to the most vulnerable groups: the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses. In Álora, the alert has been at its highest, and the Town Hall has advised residents not to leave home unless necessary.

“We are experiencing a very tough summer. We ask the population to take care and stay alert to Aemet's warnings,” said a spokesperson for the Town Hall.

Forecasts indicate that the heat will not relent in the coming days. Aemet has active warnings for high temperatures across the province, and it is expected that thermometers will continue to exceed 40 degrees at least until midweek.

A summer of records

Álora is no stranger to topping heat lists. The municipality already recorded 44.2 degrees in August 2021, one of the highest marks in recent history in the province. This Saturday, although far from that record, it has once again demonstrated why it is known as one of the hottest towns in Spain.

Manilva, for its part, has surprised by making it to the podium. With its 41.5 degrees, the coastal municipality has surpassed inland localities that usually lead these rankings. “It’s unusual, but it shows that heat doesn’t understand the coast,” they joke at Aemet.

For the coming days, it is recommended to follow weather updates and remain vigilant. Summer has just begun, and all signs point to temperatures continuing to be a prominent feature in Málaga province.
