The town of Málaga has been the focal point of operation Rookie, in which the Civil Guard has dismantled an organisation dedicated to committing thefts in hospitality establishments across several Andalusian provinces. In total, nine members of this criminal group have been arrested, while two others were already serving time in provisional prison for similar offences.
Thefts in several provinces
The operation began after the first theft committed in a restaurant in Ayamonte, Huelva. Subsequently, a second theft with similar characteristics was recorded, leading agents to suspect that the perpetrators were moving between provinces to commit the crimes.
The investigations carried out by the Civil Guard identified one of the gang members, who resided in a neighbourhood of Seville. From this city, the group organised their movements to commit the thefts in Huelva, Seville, and Córdoba.
Methodology of the organisation
Initially, the gang members used vehicles belonging to family members and rental cars to carry out the thefts. However, over time they began to use stolen cars, which complicated the investigative work of the Civil Guard. They used these vehicles to force the access doors of the establishments before abandoning them to avoid being linked to the crimes.
The investigation confirmed the group's involvement in at least ten thefts in businesses, through which numerous items were recovered, including meat products and cosmetics, as well as a car. The total value of the stolen goods is estimated at approximately €22,000.
The operation has been coordinated by the Ayamonte Investigation Team, in collaboration with the Judicial Police Organic Unit of Huelva and the Roca Team of the Civil Guard of Aracena. The proceedings have been directed by the Court of Instance and Instruction No. 5 of Ayamonte.
The detainees face charges for the alleged crimes of robbery with force and belonging to a criminal group.
