The Antequera City Council has submitted a request for €1,045,889 to the central government to repair infrastructures damaged by the storms in February. Mayor Manolo Barón detailed the nine planned actions, focused on rural roads and localities.
The Antequera City Council has submitted a request for €1,045,889.06 to the Government of Spain to repair municipal infrastructures that were damaged by the storms last February. The request is made under Article 7 of Royal Decree-Law 5/2026, which regulates aid to local entities for repair and reconstruction works following adverse weather events.
The mayor, Manolo Barón, appeared at a press conference accompanied by the deputy mayor for Works, Teresa Molina, and the head of Security and Civil Protection, Antonio García Mendoza. Together, they detailed the nine actions included in the plan, all of which concern rural roads, localities, and municipal services.
Nine actions for roads and localities
The largest allocation, €620,000, will be dedicated to Olivo Street in the locality of La Joya. As Barón explained, this area has suffered recurrent flooding due to runoff, causing damage to the pavement and the sewage network. The proposed solution involves renewing the stormwater network and properly connecting it to the nearby stream.
Other notable actions include the road from Cartaojal to the Cuevas Bajas road (€125,251), where the rains eroded the channel and left the road cut off from traffic. The installation of gabions and riprap is planned to stabilise the terrain. The road from Campillos to Bobadilla (€110,536) will also require protection for the foundation of a crossing over the Tilajas stream.
The road from Las Pedrizas to Villanueva de la Concepción (€81,879) suffered a landslide that necessitated emergency intervention. Antequera Street in Cañadas de Pareja will receive €63,000 to replace the drainage system and prevent further flooding. The channeling of the Aljibe stream in Los Nogales will be repaired with €31,500.
Completing the list are the road from Molinillo-Lentiscar (€5,904), from Boca del Asno to Puerto del Barco (€4,562), and from La Joya to the Valle de Abdalajís (€3,254).
Complementary financing to avoid burdening residents
Barón highlighted that some of these works already have partial funding from the Junta de Andalucía through emergency aid for rural roads. Therefore, the request to the central government only includes the remaining portion needed to cover the total cost. “We have acted with rigor and loyalty, stating exactly and specifically what was already contemplated,” the mayor affirmed.
The goal, according to the mayor, is for the repairs to be carried out at no additional cost to the residents of Antequera. The actions primarily benefit localities such as La Joya, Los Nogales, Cañadas de Pareja, Cartaojal, and Bobadilla, as well as rural roads in the municipality. “These are basic infrastructures for residents, especially in rural areas, and for farmers and businesses,” Barón emphasised.
The request has been formally registered and is now awaiting a response from the Government of Spain. The City Council is hopeful that the response will be positive, given that the aid is included in the Royal Decree-Law approved in February. Meanwhile, municipal technicians continue to assess potential additional damages.
