The Antequera City Council has requested €1,045,889 from the central government to repair nine municipal infrastructures damaged by the storms in February. The largest allocation, of €620,000, will be dedicated to Olivo Street in the district of La Joya.
The mayor of Antequera, Manolo Barón, submitted the aid request for local entities included in Royal Decree-Law 5/2026, of 17 February, which regulates subsidies for repairing damage caused by adverse weather events. The request, amounting to €1,045,889.06, includes nine actions on rural roads, streets, and sewage networks in the city and its districts.
Barón appeared at a press conference accompanied by the deputy mayor of Works, Teresa Molina, and the councillor for Security and Civil Protection, Antonio García Mendoza. Both have supervised the technical assessment of the damage caused by the February storms, which left multiple damages to the municipal road network.
Damage to rural roads and districts
The most significant action, with €620,000, focuses on Olivo Street in the district of La Joya. As Barón explained, this area has suffered recurrent flooding due to runoff, causing damage to the pavement and the sewage network. The proposed solution involves renewing the rainwater network and properly connecting it to the nearby stream.
Another notable intervention is the road from Cartaojal to the Cuevas Bajas road, with a budget of €125,251. The rains eroded the channel and left the road cut off from traffic, so gabions and riprap will be installed to stabilize the ground and prevent further landslides.
Funding has also been requested for the road from Campillos to Bobadilla (€110,536), where the crossing over the Tilajas stream was damaged, and for the road from Las Pedrizas to Villanueva de la Concepción (€81,879), affected by a landslide that required an emergency intervention to maintain access.
Basic infrastructures for residents and farmers
The mayor emphasized that these works are essential for the daily lives of the people of Antequera. "We are talking about basic infrastructures for residents, primarily in rural areas and districts, as well as for farmers and businesses located in these environments," he stated in a press release.
The complete list also includes the road from Molinillo-Lentiscar (€5,904), from Boca del Asno to Puerto del Barco (€4,562), from La Joya to the Valle de Abdalajís (€3,254), Antequera Street in the district of Cañadas de Pareja (€63,000), and the channeling of the Aljibe stream in Los Nogales (€31,500).
The request is based on Article 7 of Royal Decree-Law 5/2026, which establishes aid for repairing municipal or provincial infrastructures affected by adverse weather events. The City Council has submitted justification reports and economic assessments prepared by the technicians from Works, Urban Planning, and Civil Protection.
For the residents of the districts, the repair of these roads and streets represents relief after months of closures and access difficulties. Farmers, especially those working in the areas of Cartaojal and Bobadilla, will be able to resume normal activities once the works are carried out.
The City Council hopes that the central government will respond to the request in the coming weeks, as the aid is designed to expedite recovery after the storms. Meanwhile, municipal technicians are finalizing the projects so that, once the grant is awarded, the works can begin without delay.
