The Antequera Day Fair 2026 has opened its doors on the Paseo Real with a confetti blast and the participation of the authorities.

The Paseo Real in Antequera experienced the official opening of the Day Fair on Wednesday, with the mayor and representatives of ADIPA launching the festive programme.

The Antequera August Fair 2026 commenced this Wednesday, August 19 with the opening of the Day Fair on the Paseo Real. The inaugural event, rich in symbolism, featured a silent confetti blast initiated by the authorities and representatives of Antequera society.

The mayor of Antequera, Manolo Barón, and the deputy mayor in charge of Major Festivities, Traditions and Flamenco Promotion, Elena Melero, led the ceremony. Alongside them were the director of the Antequera August Fair 2026, Macarena Espinar, and three representatives from ADIPA who will feature in tonight's Fair Proclamation: Susana García, Eva Ortiz, and Milagros Fernández.

The act of setting off the confetti blasts was shared with spokespersons from the municipal political groups represented in the Antequera City Council, as well as several children, elderly residents from local care homes, and an Antequera emigrant visiting the city for the Fair. This image reinforces the participatory and popular nature of this traditional start.

The inaugural day saw the presence of elderly individuals from various care homes in the city, who came to the Paseo Real to enjoy the atmosphere. This initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Senior Citizens Department of Antequera City Council, aiming to encourage the participation of this group in one of the most significant events on the local festive calendar.

Following the inauguration, the gazebo on the Paseo Real hosted a performance by the flamenco group Son y Compás, while attendees enjoyed a tasting of wines from the Barbadillo brand.

The traditional tent booths on the Paseo Real have now opened their doors to the public, marking the start of the Day Fair programme. From this Wednesday, the city is filled with a festive atmosphere, community spirit, and activities for all audiences, in an edition that will continue over the coming days with a full programme.
