Antequera unfolds this Friday and Saturday the central days of the Andalucía Antequera Light Fest 2026, with five shows of light, fire and videomapping in the historic centre.
The city of Antequera becomes the epicentre of light and ephemeral art from tonight with the start of the central days of the Andalucía Antequera Light Fest 2026. Five locations in the historic centre host videomapping shows, light installations and fire, in an edition that coincides with the tenth anniversary of the declaration of the Dolmens Site as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The activities take place between 22:30 and 02:00 hours today, Friday 17th, and tomorrow, Saturday 18th of July. Access to all shows is free, and it is recommended to arrive early to enjoy each performance.
Five Locations, Five Unique Experiences
The Royal Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor debuts this edition with the videomapping 'Luminare', with performances every 30 minutes. This is a three-dimensional projection on the façade of the monument that combines music and visual effects inspired by the city's history.
On the Cuesta de San Judas, the installation 'Rain of Light' turns water into a canvas of light, offering an uninterrupted show throughout the night. It is one of the most photographed spots of the festival.
The Plaza de San Sebastián hosts 'The Fire of History', a setup that fuses light, music and fire with performances every 30 minutes. The Town Hall Courtyard transforms into a dance floor with 'Music Party Universe', featuring projections and a large LED screen. Finally, the Plaza de San Luis offers 'DJ Light', a musical session with projections on the façade.
Family Days Festival and World Cup Final Screening
The Family Days Festival continues at the Paseo Real until Sunday 19th July, with free access, food trucks, children's activities and live music. On Sunday, two giant screens installed at the Paseo Real will broadcast the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, replacing the originally planned Beatles tribute concert. This decision has been well received by football fans, who will be able to watch the match outdoors.
Additionally, the MVCA (Museum of the City of Antequera) will screen the documentary 'The Day We Made History: 10 Years as World Heritage', which recalls the day of July 15, 2016, in Istanbul, when UNESCO declared the Dolmens Site as a World Heritage Site. The sessions are held every hour, from 11:00 to 14:00 hours, from today, Friday, until Sunday.
For residents and visitors, the Light Fest represents a unique opportunity to rediscover the historic centre of Antequera in a different light. The festival has gained prominence in the Andalusian cultural calendar, and this edition promises to be the most ambitious, with a budget of around 200,000 euros and the participation of local and international artists.
The Antequera City Council recommends using public transport or the designated park-and-ride facilities located on the outskirts, as a high influx of visitors is expected. A special urban bus service has also been arranged until 01:00 hours.
