The town of Rincón de la Victoria, in Málaga, has taken an important step in the educational field. The Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training has awarded the construction of the new Secondary Education Institute (IES) in La Cala del Moral. This construction, which will be executed by the company Gestión y Ejecución de Obra Civil S.A., has a budget of €7,768,908.44 and a planned execution period of 20 months.
Features of the new institute
The new IES will have a D3 typology, meaning it will have three lines of compulsory secondary education, creating a total of 360 new school places. The building will be erected on a plot of 9,042 square meters located in the Parque Victoria urbanization, next to the CEIP María del Mar Romera.
The structure of the institute will include more than 3,300 square meters built in a compact three-storey block. Inside, it will feature 12 multipurpose classrooms, an art and visual education classroom, a workshop classroom, a music classroom, and a special education classroom, among other notable spaces such as a laboratory, ten departments, and a library.
Additionally, sports facilities and common areas will be included, such as a cafeteria, general storage, restrooms for students and teachers, and utility rooms. The exterior will include multi-sport courts and playgrounds.
Energy efficiency and sustainability
One of the important aspects of the new IES is its focus on bioclimatization and energy efficiency. The institute will have adiabatic cooling and a photovoltaic solar panel installation, which will allow for the generation of electricity for self-consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
A low-temperature hot water heating system and a natural ventilation system that facilitates the automatic opening of windows according to CO2 levels will also be incorporated. The outdoor spaces will include deciduous trees that will provide shade during the hottest months.
The construction of the new institute is part of the Educational Infrastructure Plan of the Ministry of Education and is funded by the European Union through the Andalucía FEDER Programme 2021-2027.
