The Regulatory Council of the IGP Mollete of Antequera holds an extraordinary plenary session in the Hall of Kings with the incorporation of Mollete San Roque and Horno El Antequerano.

The Hall of Kings at the Antequera Town Hall hosted an extraordinary plenary session of the Regulatory Council of the Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) Mollete of Antequera this Wednesday, a session in which the entry of two new bakeries into the register of producers was formalised. Mollete San Roque and Horno El Antequerano are thus integrated as full members of the organisation, a step that strengthens the structure of a quality figure that protects one of the most emblematic products of the local gastronomy.

The meeting, chaired by the territorial delegate of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of the Junta de Andalucía in Málaga, Fernando Fernández Tapia-Ruano, was attended by the mayor of Antequera, Manolo Barón, and the deputy mayor in charge of Tourism and Commerce, Ana Cebrián, who greeted the attendees before the session began. The Town Hall provided the municipal space for the development of a meeting that, according to consulted sources, took place in an atmosphere of institutional collaboration.

The main item on the agenda was the definitive registration of the two bakeries in the Regulatory Council's register. With this incorporation, the IGP Mollete of Antequera expands its base of affiliated producers, a move that is part of the strategy to consolidate and promote this protected designation. The organisation also wanted to extend an invitation to other interested bakeries to join this structure, with the aim of continuing to grow and giving greater visibility to the product.

One of the most notable announcements of the session was the upcoming opening of an office for the IGP Mollete of Antequera in the municipal building of San Luis, a space that will serve as a point of attention and management for producers and for the promotion of the figure. Additionally, it has been indicated that after the summer, an official presentation event for the Protected Geographical Indication will be held, an event that is shaping up to be a key date to showcase the values of this quality label.

The extraordinary plenary session also formalised the change in the leadership of the Regulatory Council. Juan Villodres takes over as president of the entity, while Juan Paradas will serve as vice president. A change that, according to the same sources, occurs at a time of growth for the IGP, which seeks to strengthen its role in the bakery sector of the region.

The IGP Mollete of Antequera is a differentiated quality figure that protects the traditional production of this bread, characterised by its fluffy crumb and toasted crust. Its recognition as a Protected Geographical Indication provides a guarantee for local producers, who thus see their production method protected against imitations. The incorporation of new bakeries into the regulatory council reinforces Antequera's position as a reference in the production of this food, closely linked to the gastronomic identity of the city and the province of Málaga.

The Town Hall of Antequera thus maintains its institutional collaboration with the Regulatory Council, a relationship that has translated into the provision of municipal spaces and support for promotional initiatives. The upcoming opening of the office in San Luis is an example of this cooperation, which seeks to provide the IGP with a stable infrastructure for its daily operation.

For the residents of Antequera, the consolidation of the IGP Mollete has a direct impact: it guarantees that the mollete purchased from the affiliated bakeries meets certain quality and tradition standards, and helps to keep alive a craft that is part of the local heritage. The invitation to other producers to join the regulatory council opens the door for more bakeries to benefit from this protection, which could translate into a greater supply of certified molletes in the coming months.

The official presentation event for the IGP, scheduled for after the summer, will be an opportunity for the public to learn firsthand about the requirements that producers must meet and the advantages of this label. Meanwhile, the regulatory council continues to work on promoting the product, with an eye on consolidating its presence both in the local market and abroad.
