The Malaga municipality is one of the four founding councils of the new collaboration network for the defence of diversity, presented this Tuesday at the VI International LGTBI Congress of Andalusia.
The Torremolinos Town Hall is part of the four councils that are launching the 'Orgullo Andaluz' network, an alliance between administrations, entities and companies to coordinate policies for the defence of diversity and the rights of LGTBI people. The initiative was presented this Tuesday in the municipality during the inauguration of the VI International LGTBI Congress of Andalusia, which takes place on 22 and 23 September under the slogan 'Respect and Diversity: red card to intolerance'.
Alongside Torremolinos, the network is being established with the participation of the town halls of Seville, Jerez de la Frontera and Almería, and aims to extend to the rest of Andalusia. The Minister of Social Services, Families and Equality of the Junta de Andalucía, Loles López, explained that one of the first steps will be the creation of a committee responsible for organising and coordinating the work of the network.

López pointed out that the aim is to share tools, experiences and resources to combat LGTBIfobia and advance rights, as well as to share initiatives in research, awareness-raising and the celebration of activities. The minister has positioned the fight against discrimination as a task for society as a whole and thanked the work of the associative movement.

This year's congress addresses intersexuality, sport, education and the fight against LGTBIfobia. The inauguration was attended by the councillor for Equality, Education and Youth of the Torremolinos Town Hall, Francisco García; the General Director of Volunteering and Diversity, Francisco Obes, and the territorial delegate of the Ministry in Malaga, Laura Valle.
García defended the open and cosmopolitan character of the municipality as the venue for the meeting and advocated for continuing to work against any discriminatory behaviour. Thus, Torremolinos hosts this regional event for the second consecutive year, bringing together representatives from administrations, entities and LGTBI groups.
