The City Council of Antequera and Tourism Costa del Sol present the Accessibility Tourism Plan and the Sustainable Tourism Development Plan 2026-2030, with five action axes and improvements in infrastructure, mobility and signage.

The auditorium of the Museum of the City of Antequera (MVCA) hosted the presentation of the Accessibility Tourism Plan and the Sustainable Tourism Development Plan 2026-2030 this Friday, two documents jointly developed by the City Council of Antequera and Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol. The event featured speeches from the mayor, Manolo Barón; the provincial deputy and CEO of Tourism Costa del Sol, Esperanza González, and the deputy mayor in charge of Tourism, Commerce and World Heritage, Ana Cebrián.

The Sustainable Tourism Development Plan 2026-2030 is structured around five axes: governance and tourism intelligence; excellence and training; sustainable adaptation of the tourist space; promotion and marketing; and enhancement of the experiential offer of the destination. As González explained, the aim is for tourism growth to generate economic opportunities "in a balanced and environmentally respectful manner," in line with the principles of Smart Tourist Destinations and the Sustainable Development Goals.

"Tourism success should not be measured solely by the number of visitors," said Esperanza González, who added that the quality of life of residents, opportunities for local businesses, and heritage conservation are also important.

Regarding accessibility, the CEO highlighted Antequera's progress despite the challenges posed by its topography and the outstanding rating achieved in this area as a Smart Tourist Destination. The Accessibility Tourism Plan includes improvements in infrastructure, tourist information, signage, mobility, and cultural and natural resources, as well as awareness-raising and training actions for the stakeholders involved. The goal is for everyone to enjoy the tourist experience in an autonomous, safe, and equitable manner, catering to people with disabilities, the elderly, families with young children, or visitors with temporary reduced mobility.

Deputy Mayor Ana Cebrián cited the Museum of the City of Antequera itself as an example, where work has been done to improve visiting conditions and incorporate support devices and resources. "Antequera must be, and is, a destination for all," affirmed Cebrián, who thanked the technical and promotional collaboration of Tourism Costa del Sol at fairs and professional meetings.

Mayor Manolo Barón closed the event by reviewing the city's tourism evolution and the commitment made since 2011 to strengthen its connection with Málaga and the Costa del Sol. "That Antequera would not be a complement to the Costa del Sol, but an integral part of the Costa del Sol," he recalled as the aim of that strategy. Barón highlighted the city's contribution to the provincial offer through its historical heritage, natural spaces, and gastronomy, mentioning milestones such as the declaration of the Dolmens Site as World Heritage and recognition as a Tourist Municipality of Andalusia.

Both documents, the result of months of analysis and participation, outline the tourism roadmap for Antequera until 2030. The planned actions will be specified in the upcoming budgetary exercises.
