The procession will depart on Sunday, 20th September at 10:30 from Avenida de los Manantiales and will end in the Pinares. The Town Hall will deploy 40 cleaning workers and reinforce security with over 70 officers.
The Romería de San Miguel in Torremolinos will take place next Sunday, 20th September, with the participation of 54 carts. The day will kick off at 9:00 AM at the Ermita de San Miguel with the blessing of the pilgrims and the departure of the patron towards Avenida de los Manantiales, where a mass will be held, sung by the San Miguel choir.
The procession will set off at 10:30 AM and will travel along Avenida de los Manantiales, Plaza Costa del Sol, Avenida Palma de Mallorca, Avenida Joan Miró, Calle Rafael Quintana Rosado, Carretera de Benalmádena, and the Pozuelo crossing until reaching the Pinares area.
During the route, the traditional cart and tractor competition will take place, where a jury will score the participants. There will be prizes for the best-decorated tractor and cart, as well as for the most cheerful and lively ensemble. The awards will be presented on the Saturday of the fair at the Third Age and Associations tent.
The Torremolinos Town Hall will install six watering troughs for the animals' water supply along the route, in addition to twelve toilets on the route and another six in the camping area.
The afternoon will feature musical performances in the esplanade in front of the Ermita. At 4:45 PM, local artists Ulises Serrano and Carlos Bravo will take the stage, followed by Los del Río.
According to the Order of 21st May 2009 from the BOJA, it is prohibited to light fires for cooking or any other purpose between 1st June and 15th October, including rest areas along roads and recreational and camping areas, even if they are enabled.
The cleaning operation will consist of 40 workers divided into five sweeping brigades, twelve workers dedicated to removing dung from oxen and horses, a support vehicle with drivers, tankers for washing with perfume and disinfectant, three sweepers, a guard tractor, and a collection truck. 140 cardboard bins will be placed along the route.
After the pilgrimage, 25 workers in six brigades will be responsible for cleaning the pine forests and the fairgrounds, with a compactor truck to collect bags, two open-box vehicles to transport bags and waste within the pine area, and two sweepers in the venue.
In terms of security, an inspector chief, four sub-inspectors, eight officers, and 56 police officers will be on duty for about eight hours. Torremolinos will have the support of a cavalry unit from the Málaga Local Police consisting of a sub-inspector, an officer, and eight police officers on that day.
This year, the Romería de San Miguel celebrates its 86th edition since the first one, held on 1st October 1940 at Fuente de la Salud as a countryside festival. In 1950, it began to be celebrated in honour of the patron saint of Torremolinos, San Miguel Arcángel.
