The Junta of Andalusia has renewed its commitment to the Misión project, which aims to consolidate smart mobility in Alhaurín de la Torre. This agreement was signed between the Minister of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Development and Public Administration, José Antonio Nieto, and the Town Hall, with the aim of strengthening the digital entrepreneurship node in this Málaga locality.
Boosting smart mobility
Nieto has highlighted that the Misión project is a key tool for promoting technological development in Andalusia. The creation of the new Ministry aims to foster digital growth both in public administration and in the region's productive fabric. To this end, the Digital Agency of Andalusia (ADA) will take over the financing of the project after the completion of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism funds.
The minister also emphasized the importance of smart mobility, considering that “the future of mobility lies in integrating efficient and connected transport systems.” According to his statements, the development of these systems will serve to enhance user experience and make better use of available urban space.
Challenges and opportunities for the future
Currently, the Misión Centre in Alhaurín de la Torre has established itself as a specialized node in Smart Mobility and hosts 32 of the 144 startups linked to the project. These initiatives focus on areas such as micromobility, data analysis, geolocation, and the use of drones, among others.
Furthermore, Nieto has underscored the need to create a solid productive fabric and attract specialized talent in mobility. In this regard, he stated that “if we combine talent and proximity, the solution will be much more efficient.” The new phase of the project aims to advance towards the consolidation of sustainable and scalable companies, as well as to promote closer collaboration between the public and private sectors.
For his part, the mayor of Alhaurín de la Torre, Joaquín Villanova, has also positively assessed the experience of the Misión Centre since its opening, highlighting its role as a space for entrepreneurship and experimentation. Villanova has stated that technological innovation is essential for improving the quality of life of citizens and has insisted that advancing towards smart mobility is vital to address current transport issues.
