The Mijas Town Hall has granted the construction license for the new Ventilla substation, which Endesa will execute with 17.1 million euros. The Junta is speeding up the processing to reinforce the supply in the western Costa del Sol.
The new Ventilla electrical substation, located in the Rincón del Hinojal area, already has municipal construction approval. The Town Hall of Mijas granted it in early September, according to Diario Sur, and the Junta de Andalucía has decided to expedite the processing of this project to strengthen the electrical grid of the western Costa del Sol.
The Andalusian government's delegate in Málaga, Patricia Navarro, has stated that the action will serve to meet the new supply needs in the area, linked to economic, industrial, and residential growth. The regional administration has classified the plan as a strategic project.
The Ventilla Plan is promoted by e-Distribución, the network subsidiary of Endesa. The company will execute a transformation substation from 220 to 66 kilovolts with an investment of 17.1 million euros. The infrastructure will provide a new supply point to the distribution network of the western Costa del Sol.

The substation will have four 66 kV lines distributed in two double circuits and about six kilometers of length integrated underground. These lines will connect the new facility with the substations of Elviria, Mijas, Cortijo Colorado, and Fuengirola.
The project was included in the Accelerator Unit of Projects (UAP) of the Junta, which coordinates the follow-up of initiatives considered strategic due to their economic and territorial impact. The Governing Council agreed to incorporate it at the beginning of the year to facilitate administrative processing.
Once the municipal construction license is obtained, the processing of the Declaration of Public Utility (DUP) for the land where the infrastructure will be installed remains to be completed. The Junta assures that this process is progressing favourably.
Navarro added that the Junta is working to accompany each of these processes as swiftly as possible and emphasized that the project is advancing thanks to the collaboration of all the administrations involved.
From Endesa, it has been pointed out that the new Ventilla substation is a strategic infrastructure to reinforce the electrical grid of the western Costa del Sol. The company claims that the investment will provide a new support point, improve the network's mesh, and increase its capacity, resilience, and flexibility to accompany the economic and urban growth of this area of Málaga.
The Andalusian government delegate also detailed the requests that the regional administration has made to the Spanish government to reinforce the electrical grid in the province. Through the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines, the Junta submitted objections to the proposed investment planning for the electrical transport network 2025-2030 for Málaga, in which it requests the incorporation of 17 new actions with an additional investment of 54 million euros. With these, investments in electrical infrastructures in the province would reach 91 million and the requested actions would total 47.

According to Navarro, the current energy deficit in the province has blocked the construction of 25,000 homes and hinders business projects that do not have sufficient electrical capacity to develop. The Junta is requesting support actions for the distribution network, the connection of new consumers, and for generation and storage.
