The Mijas Town Hall has completed the cleaning of the streams El Cujau, Algaida, La Cala, and Carrizo and plans to clear three more channels. The work aims to prevent blockages and overflows with the arrival of the rains.
The Mijas Town Hall has cleared the vegetation from four streams whose mouths reach the coast before the start of the rainy season. The work, which will continue in three other channels, aims to prevent blockages and possible overflows.
The councillor for Operational Services and Beaches, Daniel Gómez, visited the conditioning and clearing work on Monday. According to the City Council, the streams El Cujau (La Luna beach), Algaida (Calahonda beach), La Cala (La Cala beach), and Carrizo (El Faro beach) have already been cleaned.
The municipal planning now includes the clearing of three more channels: the stream of Muerto (Chaparral beach), the stream La Lucera (Riviera beach), and the stream of Los Álamos (Royal Beach).
“These are very detailed works, as an initial assessment of each stream is carried out to understand its characteristics. This way, the necessary technical and human resources are adjusted. We spare no effort to ensure sufficient safety in these areas ahead of the rains,” explained Gómez.
For these tasks, a mixed machine, an eight-ton rotating machine, and a large-capacity truck are being used. Eight workers from Mijas Servicios Complementarios (MSC) are assigned to the work.
The councillor called on citizens not to throw waste into the streams and reminded them that hygiene wipes should not be flushed down the toilet, as they harm the sewage system.
