The Torremolinos Town Hall, through LITOSA, has started preventive cleaning of five streams this Wednesday to avoid flooding due to the expected rains. Aguas de Torremolinos has already removed 92 tonnes of waste from 808 drains so far this year.
The Town Hall of Torremolinos has launched the stream cleaning plan to clear evacuation routes and water exit points to prevent flooding. The work, carried out by the company LITOSA, began on September 9 and will continue until November 2.
The efforts focus on the streams Gazpacho, Saltillo, Cueva de la Higuera, Pan Triste, and Pinillo. The aim is to unclog the channels by clearing and removing weeds to ensure proper water flow and reduce the risk of blockages and damage in case of heavy rainfall.
For this work, a rotating machine weighing 8 tonnes with a forestry shredder on the arm has been rented, which operates without a driver. Own resources are also used, such as a tractor with a forestry shredder, two operators, trucks, and an excavator.
In parallel, Aguas de Torremolinos has cleaned 808 drains and 18.59 kilometres of sewage network this year, removing 92 tonnes of waste, of which around 40% are wipes. These actions aim to prevent blockages and incidents during rain episodes.
This year, a new sanitation truck with a capacity of 9,000 litres has been added, compared to the previous 7,000, along with a high-pressure water system of up to 250 bars and 212 litres per minute. The vehicle is quieter, reduces disturbances to residents, and can be operated remotely, improving the safety of the workers.
These works complement the preventive measures carried out throughout the year in the municipality to ensure maximum water evacuation capacity during heavy rainfall. Drains are key in this system, as they collect rainwater and direct it to the sewer system, but their capacity is reduced when waste accumulates due to the rains.
