The 18th edition of the UMA Summer Courses in Marbella will take place from June 30 to July 3 with five courses and a masterclass on health, history, science, and art. There are already 130 enrolled.
The city of Marbella will once again host the Summer Courses of the University of Málaga (UMA). The event will be held from June 30 to July 3 and will feature five courses and a masterclass with around thirty speakers. This was announced on Tuesday by the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, and the general director of the UMA General Foundation, Eugenio Luque, during the presentation at the Royal Hospital of Mercy.
Muñoz highlighted that these courses "have become part of our cultural identity and have been consolidating since 2008 as a meeting space for knowledge, reflection, and debate." The mayor emphasized that the locality "will once again bring together prominent experts who will address relevant and current topics" and confirmed that there are already 130 enrolled.

For his part, Eugenio Luque noted that this is the 24th edition of the summer courses across the UMA and the 18th organized by the General Foundation. "We congratulate ourselves and also congratulate the Marbella City Council for reaching another edition," he stated. He also revealed that Marbella currently has the highest number of enrollments.
The programme will kick off on June 30 with the courses 'The Cosmic Ballet: Solar Eclipses and Planetary Exploration', led by the professor of Analytical Chemistry Javier Laserna, and '21st Century Oncology: Towards Personalized Medicine', coordinated by the professor of Oncology Emilio Alba. On the same day, the seminar 'Picasso Superstar: Re-readings and Critiques from the Present' will begin, taught by professor María Jesús Martínez Silvente, which will take place over two days.
On July 2, it will be the turn of 'Global Health, Solidarity Medicine, and International Cooperation', led by Francisco Sendra, and 'The Crises of Democracy', which will be held on July 2 and 3 under the direction of professor Manuel Arias Maldonado. The offer will be completed on July 3 with the masterclass 'The Pleasure of Admiring: Human Evolution, Science, and Future', led by the paleontologist and communicator Juan Luis Arsuaga.
The courses will mainly be held at the Royal Hospital of Mercy, while the seminar on Picasso will take place at the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Engraving. The organization is sponsored by the Marbella City Council and collaborates with the UMA Global Health Chair, the Bisturí Solidario Foundation, the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Engraving, and the Málaga Astronomy Society.
The vice-rector for Economic Planning and Strategy of the UMA, Zaida Díaz, emphasized that "Marbella not only hosts these courses but enhances them, becoming the perfect setting where the academic excellence of the UMA connects with society." Enrollments are still open, and interested parties can formalize them through the UMA General Foundation.
