The National Police has dismantled an organization that cultivated marijuana in Almería and Granada and processed it in a house in Fuengirola for export to Europe. A total of 118 kilos of marijuana have been seized and there are 14 arrests, six of them on the Costa del Sol.
The criminal organization operated with a sophisticated logistical system. After cultivating marijuana in greenhouses in the provinces of Almería and Granada, they transported it by truck to a house in Fuengirola, where it was processed, packaged, and prepared for shipment to Germany and Greece. The National Police estimates that profits multiplied when selling the drugs in the European market, where prices are higher.
An investigation that began in September 2025
The investigation started almost a year ago when agents detected suspicious movements in the Granada town of Baza. From there, investigators followed the trail of money and goods until they found the crops and warehouses. The organization used shuttle vehicles and prohibited weapons to protect the transports, complicating police work.
The turning point came in April 2026 when agents intercepted the leader of the group and two of his men as they left the nursery in Fuengirola after preparing a shipment of 36 kilos of marijuana. This seizure confirmed the modus operandi and strengthened the evidence for the final phase of the operation.
Simultaneous raids in three provinces
At the end of June, the police carried out 19 simultaneous raids in the provinces of Málaga, Granada, and Almería. In the Costa del Sol, six people were arrested and four searches were conducted: three in Benalmádena and one in Fuengirola. During these, an extendable baton, two knuckle dusters, a pepper spray pistol, a GPS beacon detector, nearly 10,000 euros, and packaging materials for the drugs were seized.
In Granada, 13 searches were conducted with eight arrests, and eight vehicles were seized, along with nearly 10,000 euros, geolocation devices, signal jammers, packaging machines, presses, over 200 mobile terminals, a drone, and a taser. In Almería, two searches were conducted with one arrest, two vehicles, 1,200 euros, cultivation tools, and 186 butane gas cylinders. In total, seven of the detainees have been remanded in custody.
The operation has dealt a severe blow to marijuana trafficking in the province of Málaga, where the Costa del Sol has become a strategic point for drug export to Europe. The house in Fuengirola functioned as a true nursery, where the drugs arrived unprocessed and left ready for sale in the international market.
For the residents of Fuengirola, the news comes as a relief, as the criminal activity was taking place in a residential area, although investigators assure that the organization took extreme security measures to remain unnoticed. The police continue their investigations to determine if there are more individuals involved or shipments that have not been detected.
