The Fuengirola City Council is contracting a team to enhance the pruning and maintenance of the municipal trees. The city has over 21,000 specimens and has replaced 250 this year.
The Fuengirola City Council has strengthened its Tree Maintenance Plan by tendering a contract that will add a support team to the pruning and general care of the municipality's plant species. This was reported by the mayor, Ana Mula, who has supervised part of the work alongside the Urban Ecology councillor, José Sánchez.
The municipal pruning workers operate on a green area of more than 21,000 trees spread throughout the urban fabric and parks of the city, according to the Tree Management Master Plan. The mayor explained that these specimens grow and require periodic attention, as they suffer from diseases, weather conditions, accidental impacts, or vandalism that can lead to the falling of branches or entire trees.
“For safety and the well-being of these living beings, we must carry out a continuous inspection and maintenance effort to keep them in perfect condition and not pose a risk to pedestrians”
The tendered contract incorporates more personnel and resources for pruning and maintenance tasks. Among the team's responsibilities is the felling of specimens that pose a serious risk of falling, a measure that, according to Mula, is only applied in extreme cases and when the danger is substantiated by technical reports.
The City Council replaces each removed tree with new species. So far this year, the Urban Ecology workers have replaced over 250 trees throughout the city, in addition to nearly 300 planted during 2025. The mayor concluded her remarks by stating that the goal is to maintain green spaces in good condition for the health of the trees and the safety of residents and visitors.
