The event, promoted by the Local Health Action Network in collaboration with the City Council and the Northern Health Area of Málaga, will offer eight themed tents, practical workshops, and a free Zumba class from 16:30 to 20:30.
Antequera will celebrate its first edition of the Health Fair on 17 September, an open day for all that will take place at Paseo Real between 16:30 and 20:30. The initiative is promoted by the Local Health Action Network (RELAS) in collaboration with the City Council of Antequera, the Northern Health Area of Málaga, and social entities from the municipality.
The presentation took place this Friday, 11 September, at a press conference with the participation of the delegated councillor for Health, María Luisa Enrile; the deputy director of Nursing for the Northern Health Area of Málaga, Cristina Alarcón; community nurse Claudia Romero; and Juanjo Romero, representing the Volunteer Platform of the Antequera Region.
The programme consists of eight tents or thematic spaces dedicated to cardiovascular risk and heart-healthy habits, first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, prevention and self-care, emotional well-being, addiction prevention, community resources, and support for caregivers. Attendees will be able to complete a route through these tents with information and practical activities guided by professionals and specialists.
Enrile has stated that the main objective is to provide citizens with reliable health information offered by professionals, with a particular focus on prevention. "Health is not just about taking care of oneself when one is ill; health is about taking care of oneself before falling ill," declared the councillor, emphasising the importance of anticipating health issues through healthy habits and understanding risk factors.
"Talking about health also means talking about quality of life, prevention, well-being, and having a good future"
The day will include a playful component. At 18:00, there will be a free Zumba class, and those who complete the so-called “healthy passport” will be able to enjoy a healthy snack and participate in raffles related to well-being and activities in the Antequera area.
The deputy director of Nursing for the Northern Health Area of Málaga, Cristina Alarcón, has thanked the collaboration of the City Council and RELAS for making the event at Paseo Real possible, and has described the Fair as a "pioneering" proposal in Antequera, accessible to children, families, and caregivers.
In the associative section, the CALA Association, the Spanish Association Against Cancer, Corazones Solidarios, the Resurgir Association, and the Girasol Association will participate, showcasing the areas of health and the groups they work with. The Fair is part of the Local Health Plan and is presented under the slogan “Promoting health, creating community”.
The event is free to access and does not require prior registration. It will take place on Thursday, 17 September, at Paseo Real in Antequera, from 16:30 to 20:30.
