Fuengirola installs vertical gardens on the Pajares stream bridges

The Fuengirola City Council has installed 300 linear meters of planters on the Pajares stream bridges, responding to a request from local residents.

The Fuengirola City Council has completed the installation of 300 linear meters of planters on the bridges over the Pajares stream, on the avenues of Los Boliches and Jesús Cautivo, an action that responds to a request from local residents.

The Beautification Plan of Fuengirola adds a new chapter with the vertical gardens that now adorn the bridges crossing the Pajares stream along the avenues of Los Boliches and Jesús Cautivo. The initiative, carried out entirely with municipal resources, has involved the placement of 300 linear meters of planters on both structures.

The Councillor for Urban Ecology, José Sánchez, has confirmed the completion of the works and explained that the initiative arises from a demand expressed by the residents of Los Boliches during the periodic meetings that the City Council holds with various neighbourhoods in the city. "We listen to the proposals of the residents and, whenever possible, we turn them into reality," the councillor stated.

The planters have been planted with perennial species that require low water consumption, chosen for their resilience and easy maintenance. The entire installation also features a drip irrigation system that optimises water use and ensures the plants' growth.

The work has been carried out by staff from the Operational Services and the Councils of Urban Ecology and Events, who have been responsible for manufacturing the metal structures, painting, installation, and planting.

"Our goal is to transform everyday urban elements into spaces with greater landscape value, adding colour and nature to the municipality without compromising sustainability and maintenance efficiency," Sánchez highlighted.

With this intervention, the City Council continues its strategy to improve the urban image by incorporating vegetation into public spaces. For the local residents, the bridges over the Pajares stream now become a more attractive environment, in line with the municipal commitment to make Fuengirola "an increasingly pleasant, green, and well-kept city."

This action is part of the municipal Beautification Plan, which has already developed other similar initiatives in various parts of the city. The work on these two bridges concludes with the planting completed and the automated irrigation now operational.
