The Benalmádena Town Hall has presented three new fire engines for the fire service, with an investment of 1.1 million euros. The vehicles replace two trucks over 25 years old and include a heavy rural unit.
The Benalmádena Marina was the venue this Monday for the presentation of three new fire engines that are joining the municipality's Fire Prevention and Extinction Service. The mayor, Juan Antonio Lara, and the Fire Chief, David Bañasco, presided over the event where the vehicles were showcased, representing an investment of 1.1 million euros.
The acquisition is part of a plan to renew the municipal fleet, replacing two trucks with over 25 years of service and including a third specialized vehicle for rural interventions. The aim, according to the Town Hall, is to modernize the resources of the fire service and improve response capacity to any emergency.
Juan Antonio Lara highlighted that “today we take a very important step in equipping our firefighters with the best possible means. This investment reflects the government team's commitment to the safety of our residents and to an essential service that must have modern, reliable vehicles prepared to face any emergency.”
The mayor added that “we continue to follow the roadmap set since the beginning of the mandate, investing in safety, renewing material resources, and strengthening the operational capacity of a service that performs exemplary work throughout the year.”
The new vehicles are designed to cover different types of emergencies. The heavy urban fire engine, mounted on a Scania chassis, is prepared for structural fires, high-rise buildings, and large-scale incidents, offering greater operational and extinguishing capacity.
Meanwhile, the light urban fire engine, based on a Volvo chassis, will facilitate operations in urban areas with less accessibility and allow for a quicker response to smaller fires and incidents on public roads. The third unit, a heavy rural fire engine, will enhance interventions in forest fires and areas of difficult access, as well as provide support in floods and emergencies along the coastline and beaches of the municipality.
The mayor emphasized that this addition is part of an investment effort of over two million euros during the mandate aimed at the fire service, which includes the acquisition of new vehicles, personal protective equipment, improvements to facilities, and other material resources.
“Investing in firefighters is investing in the safety of Benalmádena. Our goal is for professionals to always have the best resources to protect citizens and act with maximum efficiency in any emergency situation,” concluded Lara.
With this renewal, Benalmádena strengthens its operational capacity against urban and forest fires, as well as against floods and other incidents. The residents of the municipality directly benefit from a more modern and reliable fleet, which reduces response times and improves safety throughout the municipality.
