The Junta of Andalusia begins processing the firefighters' decree

The town of Málaga has been the setting where the Junta of Andalusia announced the start of the processing of a new decree that will regulate the coordination, organization, and functioning of the Fire Prevention, Extinction, and Rescue Services (Speis). This information was published in the Official Bulletin of the Junta of Andalusia (BOJA) today.

Objectives of the new decree

The First Vice President and Minister of the Presidency, Health, and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, has informed that the new regulation will establish for the first time common bases for all firefighting services in the autonomous community. This framework aims to guarantee a minimum level of protection for all citizens, regardless of their place of residence.

The public information period set is 15 working days, during which citizens, local entities, professionals, and interested organizations can submit comments and suggestions on the proposed text. This step is presented as a response to the sector's demands for national regulations to govern these services.

Main provisions of the decree

The new draft decree includes various guidelines, among which stand out:

• Provision of services on a permanent basis 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
• Autonomous operational capacity of at least 72 hours in the face of extraordinary emergencies, ensuring the supply of resources such as electricity and water.
• Territorial planning that ensures a response time not exceeding 30 minutes to attend to population centres.

The text also includes a unique and free registry of Speis personnel, which will allow for the identification of agents and the issuance of common accreditations. Additionally, it addresses aspects of occupational risk prevention and continuous training within the working day.

During the public information period, the complete text of the draft decree will be available on the Junta of Andalusia's website, where comments can be submitted. The inclusion and analysis of these proposals will be considered before the final approval of the decree by the Governing Council.
