AFAB sets up information tables in Arroyo de la Miel and prepares a festival on 26th September at the Plaza de la Mezquita to celebrate its three decades of work.
The Association of Relatives of Alzheimer’s Patients and Other Dementias of Benalmádena and Torremolinos (AFAB) has set up information tables this Tuesday at various points in Arroyo de la Miel to provide residents with information about the disease, address inquiries, and raise awareness about its impact on family environments.
The initiative has been attended by the Councillor for Citizen Participation, María Luisa Robles, alongside the president of AFAB, Mari Cruz Azuaga. Robles highlighted the importance of showcasing the work of the entity over three decades.
The central event will take place on Saturday 26th September from 17:00 hours at the Plaza de la Mezquita, with the AFAB 30th Anniversary Festival. The open-to-the-public day will include the Municipal Singing School, an afternoon session with DJ Ángel and DJ Man-güe, dance performances by Laura Bernal and Nazaret Valderrama, and a jazz concert by La Little Big Band de Málaga. There will be a bar with affordable prices.
“I encourage the residents of Benalmádena to join AFAB next Saturday for a very special celebration, as turning 30 means three decades of commitment, participation, and constant work alongside many families,” declared Robles.
The councillor emphasized AFAB’s social work with people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias and their families, and called for progress in awareness, information, and resources to improve their quality of life.
The activities are part of the World Alzheimer’s Day, celebrated every 21st September. This year, the Spanish Confederation of Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias (CEAFA) has chosen the slogan ‘“No” is no longer an answer’ to focus attention on the needs of those diagnosed and their families.
AFAB’s programming will continue on 1st October at 10:00 hours with the talk-debate ‘Learning to Live with Alzheimer’s: A Real Testimony’ at the CPA Anica Torres in Arroyo de la Miel, in collaboration with José Antonio García García. This event is part of the Senior Week organized by the Third Age Delegation of the Benalmádena City Council.
