The Ronda City Council presents the new handcrafted tiles that will guide visitors to the Tajo Gorge Path, coinciding with the opening of its second phase this August.
The Tourism Delegate of the Ronda City Council, Ángel Martínez, has presented the new signage that will lead visitors to the start of the Tajo Gorge Path, whose second phase will open to the public this August. The indications, made from handcrafted tiles, will be installed in the streets of the Historic Ensemble to facilitate access to the natural monument.
These are rustic clay tiles created by the local workshop of Uta Gruber, a proposal that has received the approval of the Historical Heritage Commission. “It is a 100% Ronda tile for 100% Ronda signage, for the Tajo which is the most Ronda thing,” Martínez highlighted, who is also responsible for the municipal company Turismo de Ronda S.A.
The new signage is part of a broader traffic reorganisation plan that the City Council is coordinating with the Local Police in anticipation of the expected increase in visitors. The aim is to design tourist flows around the Ermita de San Miguel, the starting point of the monument, and to avoid inconveniences for local residents.
Additionally, the works on the old hermitage are nearing completion to convert it into an auxiliary Tourism office. The restrooms have already been finished, and workers are now focusing on carpentry and the counters of the future shop, which will allow for improved visitor service at one of the busiest points in the city.
The opening of the second phase of the Tajo Gorge Path is one of the most anticipated events of the summer in Ronda, and with this signage, the City Council aims for tourists to find access intuitively from the historic centre. Local residents and merchants will also benefit from more orderly traffic during the peak months.
