Nearly a hundred children aged between 3 and 12 have participated in the Summer School of the Municipal School of Music and Dance in Ronda, which has combined music, dance, and theatre over five weeks.
The Municipal School of Music and Dance (EMMD) in Ronda has successfully concluded its Summer School, an initiative that brought together nearly a hundred children aged between 3 and 12 around music, dance, and theatre for five weeks. The municipal delegate for Education, Cristina Durán, announced the results of a proposal titled The Great Pack: Growing Together to the Rhythm of the Jungle, which has turned summer into an educational and playful experience for the little ones.
The project, inspired by The Jungle Book, allowed participants to immerse themselves in a world of creativity through musical workshops, body expression, set design, creation of recycled instruments, and rehearsals for a musical. The councillor highlighted that the initiative not only provided a leisure alternative but also served as a resource for family and work-life balance during the summer period, a demand increasingly present in Ronda families.
Durán emphasised the success of the initiative, which she described as a “resounding success”. In her statements, she underscored the innovative nature of a summer school that has managed to combine musical learning with the transmission of values such as companionship, empathy, respect, and teamwork. “It has been a very enriching experience for the children, who have been able to discover music in a playful and participatory way,” the municipal official noted.
One of the aspects most valued by the Ronda City Council has been the maintenance of affordable prices to facilitate access for all families to this educational proposal. A decision that, according to the delegate, responds to the council's commitment to bringing artistic training to all households, regardless of their economic situation. During the five weeks of activities, children had the opportunity to get to know the different instruments taught during the course at the EMMD, as well as to participate in choreographies and rehearsals that will culminate in a musical.
Professor Javier Carmona, responsible for the project, explained that the initiative has posed a significant educational challenge by integrating numerous children without prior musical training. Engaging them in a collective experience based on music and culture has been, in his words, one of the greatest achievements of this edition. Carmona wanted to thank the trust placed by families and announced that the work developed during the summer does not end here.
The project will continue next term, aiming to complete the musical and premiere it in October. In this way, creativity and coexistence will become the main protagonists of an initiative that has managed to connect summer leisure with artistic learning. The news has been well received among participating families, who see this summer school as a unique opportunity for their children to develop musical and social skills in a playful environment.
