The Málaga municipality of Villanueva del Trabuco will host the 2027 Spanish Gravel Championship, which will take place on May 8 as part of the Entre Sierras Gravel Race.

The Royal Spanish Cycling Federation has designated Villanueva del Trabuco as the venue for the 2027 Spanish Gravel Championship. The event will be held on Saturday, May 8, coinciding with the second edition of the Entre Sierras Gravel Race, which was already part of the Spanish Cup in 2026.

The decision was approved by the RFEC Delegated Commission, which has trusted in the organisational experience accumulated by the Málaga municipality after hosting the national cup event last season. The route, yet to be defined, will traverse fast tracks and technical sections characteristic of the interior of the province.

Villanueva del Trabuco thus becomes the epicentre of national gravel on that day. The race will crown the new Spanish champions in the various categories established by the federation's regulations, succeeding the winners of 2026.

This designation represents a qualitative leap for the Entre Sierras Gravel Race, which transitions from being a scoring event for the Spanish Cup to directly determining the national titles. This change raises the expected competitive level and attracts the attention of teams, cyclists, and brands linked to a discipline that is rapidly growing.

The date of May 8 places the competition in the heart of spring, a time when weather conditions can be decisive. Dry and fast terrain favours high speeds and large groups, while rain could harden the course and give more prominence to bike control.

The organisation still needs to communicate the final route and complete programme. In these types of races, factors such as distance, accumulated elevation, and terrain condition influence the choice of bicycles, tyres, and gears, so participants will be attentive to the details of the course.

For Villanueva del Trabuco, hosting a national championship represents a boost for tourism and sports. The Málaga locality, which has already demonstrated its organisational capacity with the Spanish Cup, reinforces its position in the Andalusian and national cycling calendar.

Gravel is a discipline that combines road and dirt, with specific bicycles that allow riding on varied surfaces. In recent years, it has gained followers in Spain, and the celebration of a national event in the province of Málaga contributes to its dissemination among local enthusiasts.

The event will bring together the best national specialists, who will compete for the tricolour jersey. Expectations are high, both for the sporting level and the appeal of the route, which will take advantage of the landscapes of the Nororma region.

More information about registrations and the programme will be available soon through the official channels of the organisation and the RFEC. Cycling enthusiasts in the province have an appointment on May 8 in Villanueva del Trabuco to witness the championship.
