The Junta of Andalucía has recently released a new regulation that governs the conditions of residences and day centres for the elderly in the town of Málaga. This order, which has been published in the Official Bulletin of the Junta of Andalucía (BOJA), aims to improve care for individuals in a situation of dependency.
New developments in the regulation of centres
For the first time, the regulation of these resources has been unified into a single document, eliminating the regulatory dispersion that has existed since 1997. This provides a clearer legal framework adapted to the evolving needs of the elderly.
Among the most significant changes is the increase in the minimum staff ratio in residences, which will allow for more direct and quality care for users. Additionally, there is a relaxation of the technical profile requirements so that entities can adapt their teams to the particularities of their residents.
Focus on person-centred care
The new regulation also advances the model of person-centred care. Figures such as the Reference Professional and the Coordinator of Living Units are incorporated, which will promote more personalised care and an environment that resembles a home.
Another relevant aspect is the increase in the number of single rooms, which could represent up to 50% of the centre's places. This, along with improvements to common and outdoor spaces, aims to promote well-being and coexistence among the elderly.
