The El Palo Fair will be held from July 14 to 19 with over 50 free activities. The Virgen del Carmen procession and Merche's concert are the main attractions.

The neighbourhood of El Palo is preparing to experience six days of non-stop festivities. The fair in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, taking place from July 14 to 19, will offer more than 50 free activities for all ages, with Merche's music as the main draw and the traditional maritime-land procession as the central moment.

The councillor for the Eastern district, Carlos Conde, presented the official programme this Tuesday. The Padre Ciganda square will once again be the epicentre of the festivities, featuring booths from clubs and associations, the main stage, and a gastronomic offering. The attractions will extend to the Virgen Milagrosa square, creating a festive route that covers a large part of the fishing village.

Procession of the Virgen del Carmen: the central event

On Thursday, July 16, the feast day of the Virgen del Carmen, the most anticipated event will take place. The image will leave at 17:00 hours from the Parish of Our Lady of Sorrows and will travel through the streets of El Palo until it reaches the sea, where it will be accompanied by decorated boats in a maritime procession that is one of the most iconic sights of the Málaga summer.

The itinerary includes Avenida Juan Sebastián Elcano, Architect Eduardo Esteve, Salvador Allende, Milagrosa lane, Quitapenas, and Banda del Mar. Boarding will take place in front of the SAFA-ICET school. After returning to land, the Virgen will continue her journey back to the temple, thus closing a day of deep devotion and tradition.

For the residents of El Palo and the entire capital, this procession is much more than a religious event: it is a hallmark that brings together thousands of people on the promenade every year. Those who wish to see it from the water can rent a boat or simply find a good spot on the shore in advance, as a large turnout is expected.

Merche's Concert and Day Fair: the big Saturday

The musical programme will reach its peak on Saturday, July 18. The singer Merche will perform a concert in the Padre Ciganda square, becoming the star of the night. Alongside her will perform Álvaro García, Salma, N-One, María Lozano, Capitán Vinilo, the A Compás Musical Orchestra, and DJs Paco Gómez, Lucena, and Félix Gutiérrez.

On the same Saturday, from 11:00 to 18:00 hours, the Echeverría Day Fair will take place on Avenida de Pío Baroja. There will be musical performances, dance academies, Rociero choirs, a horse parade, rider and amazon competitions, and the election of the Day Fair Queen. Additionally, Carlos Bravo and the group Radio 80 will provide the soundtrack for the day.

Food lovers also have an appointment: on Sunday, the 19th, a popular paella will be held to cap off the festivities. That same day will be Children's Day, with attractions at reduced prices so that the little ones can enjoy without straining the budget. An initiative that families in the neighbourhood always appreciate.

Complete programme: from seniors to fireworks

The fair will kick off on Tuesday, July 14, with the opening show, fireworks, and the election of Miss and Mister El Palo Fair 2026. Wednesday, July 15, will be dedicated to seniors, with a tribute dinner and the election of the Queen and King of the Elderly, a gesture that the district especially cherishes to recognise the older residents.

Throughout the week, there will be flamenco shows featuring the academies of Montse Bravo, Ana María Torralvo, and Alicia Lara, as well as children's activities, competitions, and popular dances. The offering is so varied that it is hard not to find a plan that fits: from those looking to dance to those who prefer to sit down for dinner in a booth.

For the local residents, the recommendation is clear: if you live in El Palo or its surroundings, prepare for noise and crowds, but also for enjoying some of the most authentic festivities in Málaga. If you are coming from outside, the metro access to the El Palo stop is the most convenient option, although there are also EMT buses that connect with the neighbourhood.
