The bullring in Málaga celebrated its 150th anniversary with a sold-out event and an afternoon of dedication. Roca Rey cut three ears, David de Miranda opened the Puerta Grande for the second time, and Morante suffered a fall.
The Málaga Fair concluded its 150th anniversary with an afternoon where bravery and commitment prevailed perfectly. In a Malagueta with a ‘sold out’ sign, Roca Rey made the most of his two bulls to cut three ears, David de Miranda repeated the Puerta Grande Manolo Segura for the second time in a week, and Morante de la Puebla left the most profound images after overcoming a strong fall.
The corrida, featuring bulls from Torrealta and Garcigrande, was not perfect, but it was emotional. The first bull, distracted and rough, hardly gave Morante any options, yet he still managed to extract two noteworthy series. The sword entered skillfully, but three descabellos extinguished the first chapter.
The fourth bull, from Garcigrande, allowed the Sevillian to express himself with another flair. Natural passes of immense flavour preceded the most dramatic moment: the bull violently caught him and threw him into the air. Morante got up in pain and returned to the spot of the incident, where he crossed paths with the right horn again. The audience was captivated and called for the ear, which the clearly pained bullfighter did not even get to parade; he then left the ring through the alley.
Roca Rey also faced difficulties. With his first bull from Torrealta, he started on his knees and gradually closed in on the animal, where he grew in command. He missed before the kill but cut one ear. The fifth bull from Garcigrande never fully surrendered, but the Peruvian remained crossed and firm, building a performance of relentless effort that culminated in a great kill and two more ears.
David de Miranda, for his part, seized his second opportunity in the season to open the Puerta Grande again, confirming the great moment he is experiencing. The afternoon, laden with symbolism due to the anniversary, left the atmosphere with the feeling that the bullring continues to be a temple of bullfighting.
