Nikoline, 17, was killed on the A-7 in Mijas after disappearing in Marbella. Her family had reported her missing hours earlier.

The Civil Guard is searching for the driver who hit and killed a 17-year-old Norwegian teenager on the A-7 motorway near Mijas. The incident occurred around 5:20 AM on Monday, and the vehicle involved left the scene without assisting the victim, according to sources from the armed institute.

The young woman, identified as Nikoline, had been on holiday on the Costa del Sol since June 19, where her stepfather resides. She was scheduled to return to Norway that same Monday. The night before, she had gone out with a friend in Puerto Banús to watch the match between Norway and Brazil in the World Cup.

A disappearance that ended in tragedy

The family reported her missing in Marbella on Monday morning, after her friend lost track of her around 4:00 AM at the Funky Buddha nightclub. The friend explained that Nikoline went to the bathroom and did not return. The family found the disappearance strange as the young woman usually kept in touch when she went out at night.

Investigators are trying to reconstruct Nikoline's movements between 3:00 and 4:00 AM, when she was lost, and the moment of the hit-and-run. One of the main uncertainties is how she got from Marbella to the accident site, at kilometre 1.027 of the A-7, heading towards Marbella. According to sources from the investigation cited by Canal Sur, the young woman took a VTC from Marbella to Mijas.

Several witnesses alerted 112 that a woman had been hit on the motorway. Emergency services from 061 and Traffic Civil Guard agents arrived at the scene but could only confirm the young woman's death. Initially, she could not be identified as she was not carrying any documentation, which delayed the confirmation of her identity.

Shock on the Costa del Sol and in Norway

The case has caused a strong shock both on the Costa del Sol and in Norway. The Norwegian newspaper VG has reported that the young woman was a resident of Arendal, in the south of the country. Spanish authorities are taking statements from witnesses and gathering evidence to clarify what happened.

The Civil Guard is searching for the driver of the vehicle that hit the minor. So far, no arrests have been made. Investigators are also reviewing the circumstances of the incident, while the family awaits answers.

For the residents of Mijas and Marbella, this tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need to assist accident victims. The investigation remains open, and more information about what occurred is expected to be provided in the coming days.
