The municipal group Vox Málaga has requested the appearance of the Councillor for Economy and Finance, Carlos Conde, to report on the delays in the works of the Pedregalejo promenade and the impact on the neighbourhood.
The municipal group of Vox in Málaga has submitted a request for the Councillor for Economy and Finance, Carlos Conde, to appear at the next Commission for Economy, Human Resources, Commerce and Contracting. The aim is for him to detail the current situation of the works on the Pedregalejo promenade, the accumulated delays, and the consequences for the economic fabric of the area.
The deputy spokesperson for Vox, Yolanda Gómez, has criticized the management of the project by the Popular Party. According to Gómez, the project is being carried out "without planning, without predictability, and without considering" the impact on residents, traders, and hospitality businesses. The party argues that the lack of information regarding the execution schedule is hindering the activities of numerous businesses, especially bars, restaurants, and beach kiosks.
These establishments are facing the months of highest economic activity without knowing for certain the progress of the works. Vox has pointed out that the initial schedule for the project has been "overwhelmed". According to the party, traders were informed that it would be completed in August, and now it is projected to November, with an additional cost nearing one million euros.
Furthermore, the municipal group is demanding information about the line of aid of up to 15,000 euros announced by the City Council to compensate for the losses caused by the works. Vox wants to know how many applications have been submitted, how many have been approved, and when the payments will be made.
The party has also requested explanations regarding the future design of the promenade, the possible loss of parking spaces, loading and unloading areas, and other aspects that affect residents. Vox argues that the project should have been executed in phases to minimize inconvenience and asks the governing team to detail the measures planned to compensate for economic and community damages.
The works on the Pedregalejo promenade began at the beginning of the year with an initial budget that, according to the City Council, was around 4.5 million euros. The project includes the renewal of the pavement, urban furniture, and improvements in accessibility. However, the works have faced several setbacks that have extended the expected timelines.
From Vox's perspective, the lack of transparency is creating uncertainty in the neighbourhood. "Residents and traders need to know when the works will finish and what aid they will receive," insisted Gómez. The party hopes that Carlos Conde's appearance will clarify all these points and that the City Council will adopt corrective measures.
For their part, the governing team of the PP has not yet officially responded to the request for appearance. Municipal sources consulted have indicated that they will comment in the corresponding commission. Meanwhile, the traders of Pedregalejo continue to await news about the definitive schedule of the works and the promised aid.
The Pedregalejo promenade is one of the most important tourist and commercial hubs in the east of the capital. Every summer, thousands of visitors and locals stroll through its beach bars and terraces. The extension of the works during the peak season has generated criticism from both business owners and residents, who see their quality of life affected.
Vox has announced that it will continue to monitor municipal actions and does not rule out presenting new initiatives if its demands are not met. The next Economy commission is scheduled for the end of the month, although the exact date has yet to be confirmed.
