The court has sent the 29-year-old man detained for the assault on a 23-year-old to provisional detention without bail and with communication.
The Court of Instruction number 1 of Málaga has decreed provisional detention without bail for the 29-year-old man arrested for the machete assault on a young man during the early hours of Monday at the Feria de Málaga grounds. The events are being investigated as an alleged attempted homicide.
The detainee, who was located by the National Police inside a caravan near the fairground, appeared before the judge on Tuesday and exercised his right not to testify. The judicial ruling keeps the suspect in custody while investigations continue to clarify the confrontation.
A dispute in the attractions area
The events occurred around 04:15 hours on Monday in the attractions area of the Real Cortijo de Torres. According to initial police investigations, the origin of the argument is linked to a woman, the partner of the arrested man, whom the 23-year-old allegedly attempted to woo.
During the altercation, the detainee allegedly used a machete against the young man, causing an injury to his left hemithorax. The victim, who was not working at the fairground, was taken to a hospital in Málaga with serious injuries.
Open investigation
The absence of a statement does not halt the proceedings. The investigations rely on police and judicial actions to reconstruct what happened. The criminal classification may change as new elements are incorporated into the procedure, especially depending on the evolution of the victim's injury.
The arrest took place on Monday morning, just hours after the attack. The National Police located the suspect in a caravan situated near the fairground, where the arrest was made. So far, no further information has been released regarding the health status of the injured young man.
This incident is distinct from the machete attack suffered by a 24-year-old fair worker in another area of the city, who also sustained serious injuries. The Feria de Málaga, held at the Real Cortijo de Torres, has been marked by these two violent events during its first days.
