The eighth edition of the Solidarity Race Route 091 of the National Police brought together nearly 1,300 participants this year in a 5,091-meter course that started in the Port of Málaga. The funds raised will go to the Telephone of Hope in Málaga.
The Solidarity Race "Route 091" of the National Police celebrated its eighth edition with the participation of nearly 1,300 runners, according to data provided by the event coordinator, Sebastián Martínez. The main event, measuring 5,091 meters, started at 21:00 from the Port of Málaga and ran along the Muelle 2 promenade, the Muelle 1 promenade, the Paseo de la Farola, and the Paseo de Levante, with both the start and finish at the Plaza de la Marina.
The event, organized by the Provincial Police Station of Málaga and authorized by the City Council of Málaga, also included two children's races for kids aged between 4 and 13 years, covering distances of 200 and 500 meters, which gathered around 300 participants an hour before the main race began. In total, the runners ranged in age from 14 years to the oldest participants.
The funds raised, including those obtained through the "solidarity bib zero" category, which allowed donations without running, will be allocated to the Telephone of Hope in Málaga, an NGO that is celebrating 50 years dedicated to promoting emotional health and supporting people in crisis. The race took place a day after World Suicide Prevention Day.
During the event, messages from the organization echoed with the slogan: "Here we all run so that no one walks alone." The race's website platform expressed gratitude in a statement for "the unconditional support of the volunteers" and the work of the collaborating companies, united to "support social initiatives that make a difference in many people's lives."
The circuit remained closed to unauthorized traffic, with exclusive access for emergency and security vehicles. The organization supervised all participants and established that no parent or guardian could participate in the children's races, although it recommended that minors attend accompanied. Members of the National Police, the green heart-shaped mascot of the Telephone of Hope, and the character Super Boke were responsible for the safety of the little ones.
This edition will be the last in which the sculptures of Neptune and Venus serve as a reference point for the start, after the City Council confirmed their removal with a six-month deadline set earlier this year, according to Diario Sur.
