In Málaga, the first vice president and councillor for the Presidency, Health and Emergencies of the Junta de Andalucía, Antonio Sanz, has confirmed that the new draft decree for the coordination, organisation and functioning of the Fire Prevention and Extinction and Rescue Services (Speis) will be available in the first months of next year.
This announcement was made during the presentation of new vehicles from the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters of Málaga. At the event, Sanz highlighted the importance of investing in equipment to ensure the safety of the citizens of Málaga and Andalusia.
A Step Forward in Fire Services Regulation
The vice president emphasised that this decree culminates a regulatory process that began in 2019, aimed at responding to the demands of Andalusian firefighters and improving adaptation to increasingly complex risks.
Starting with Law 2/2023, which amended the Emergency Management Law of Andalusia, various phases have been established for the improvement of these services. In this context, the new decree will focus on the daily activities of the services, including their organisation, functions and the necessary planning for each station.
Additionally, common bases will be established for the first time to regulate the Speis in Andalusia, respecting the local autonomy of municipalities and provincial councils. One of the key provisions will be to ensure the continuous provision of services 24 hours a day throughout the year.
Commitment to Safety and Professional Recognition
The project also includes the development of a Unique Personnel Register, where the categories and training of professionals will be recorded, allowing for a common official accreditation. Furthermore, ongoing training and occupational risk prevention will be addressed.
Antonio Sanz has expressed that it is essential to take care of security professionals, thus ensuring an effective response to emergencies. He also anticipated that a new Andalusian self-protection decree will be processed to update obligations in centres and facilities.
The vice president highlighted that safety is an essential pillar for coexistence and well-being in Andalusia. Therefore, every new resource and regulatory advance contributes to consolidating a system that protects the population.
At the event, Sanz was accompanied by various administrative figures and professionals from the sector, who celebrated the improvement in emergency services in the region.
