The family of a student burst into the school on Thursday at noon and assaulted the headteacher and a teacher who tried to mediate. The Civil Guard attended the institute and the educational community has called for a gathering this Friday at 9:00.
The family of a student from IES Los Montecillos in Coín assaulted the headteacher and a teacher who tried to mediate on Thursday at noon. The incident occurred just three days after the start of the 2026-2027 school year, according to Diario Sur. The assault was both physical and verbal, involving punches, kicks, and hair pulling, according to eyewitnesses.
The conflict began when a group of students was sent to the headteacher's office after an altercation at the school. One of the minors called their family, who arrived at the school and kicked the entrance. Once inside, they shouted at and assaulted the headteacher, as well as another teacher who tried to mediate. The Civil Guard had to be dispatched to the educational centre.
“On behalf of the entire educational community of IES Los Montecillos in Coín, we want to express our strongest condemnation and absolute rejection of the serious acts of physical and verbal violence suffered today by the professionals of our centre in the exercise of their duties,” the school states in a statement.
The management has called for a silent gathering this Friday at 9:00 AM at the entrance of the school, open to the entire educational community and the residents of Coín. The school has received dozens of supportive messages on social media from other schools and family associations.
“It is unacceptable that those of us who dedicate our work to educating and protecting the youth of our locality have to come to our workplace feeling fear, helplessness, or vulnerability,” the statement adds.
The mayor of Coín, Francisco Santos, has also condemned the events: “From the City Council of Coín, we strongly condemn the acts of aggression and violence against the teaching staff of IES Los Montecillos by the family members of a student at the centre. It is intolerable that our education professionals have to suffer such situations in the course of their work.”
The Territorial Delegation of Education in Málaga has expressed its rejection and activated the psychological and legal support provided by the Ministry for these cases. “We are adopting all administrative and legal measures at our disposal,” it states in a statement, expressing hope that such events do not happen again.
