The Plenary of the Alhaurín de la Torre Town Hall has approved a motion from the PP, with the support of Vox and the abstention of PSOE and Con Andalucía, which calls on the Government for extraordinary measures in Ceuta and reaffirms Spanish sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla.
The Plenary of the Alhaurín de la Torre Town Hall has approved a motion in defence of the Spanish sovereignty of Ceuta and Melilla and to demand the Government of Spain to adopt extraordinary measures in response to the serious events that have occurred in the autonomous city. The proposal, presented by the municipal group of the PP, received the favourable vote of Vox, while PSOE and Con Andalucía abstained.
The agreement reaffirms the belonging of Ceuta and Melilla to Spain, based on history, law, and the constitutional and democratic order, and declares that both cities constitute an inseparable part of Spain and its territorial integrity. It also rejects any action that seeks to question or undermine national sovereignty.
The text demands that the Government of Spain deploy and maintain in Ceuta all the resources, means, and capabilities of the State that are necessary, including extraordinary ones, until the full recovery of normality, security, public order, and the effective exercise of the fundamental and constitutional rights of the people of Ceuta is guaranteed.
Likewise, the Plenary urges the central Executive to proceed with the identification of individuals who entered Spanish territory irregularly through Ceuta during these events and to promote the effective return to Morocco of those who lack the right to remain in Spain, applying the legally established procedures and using the available bilateral and European cooperation mechanisms.
The motion requests that the Government fully exercise its competencies in matters of border control, immigration, security, and international relations, avoiding transferring responsibilities that belong to the State to the Autonomous City. In this regard, the Town Hall urges demanding the Kingdom of Morocco to effectively fulfil its obligations and commitments of cooperation with Spain in border control, combating irregular immigration, and readmission and return, as well as to permanently reinforce the protection and surveillance of the borders of Ceuta and Melilla, providing them with the necessary human, material, technological, and operational resources to prevent new episodes of massive irregular entry.
The agreement includes the recognition and gratitude of the Town Hall to the State Security Forces and Corps, the Armed Forces, the Local Police, emergency services, and public employees who are working to protect the safety, coexistence, and rights of the citizens of Ceuta, as well as to those who served in Melilla during the days of special migratory pressure at the border.
The Plenary expresses its sorrow and dismay at the loss of human lives and the drama experienced, especially when it affects minors and vulnerable individuals, and conveys its solidarity to the people of Ceuta due to the human and social impact of these events.
The motion calls on the Government of Spain to promote before the institutions of the European Union the establishment of a permanent and stable presence of Frontex in Ceuta and Melilla, with specialised personnel, technical means, and operational resources suited to the specific characteristics of both borders.
The approved agreements will be forwarded to the President of the Government of Spain, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, the Presidents of the Congress of Deputies and the Senate, and the Presidency of the Autonomous City of Ceuta.
It is worth remembering that on September 2, about two thousand people gathered in the Alcalde Antonio Vega González square in Alhaurín de la Torre in support of Ceuta.
