The Department of Commerce and Industry extends the special summer hours for outdoor terraces, allowing them to close at two in the morning every day until the end of the San Miguel Fair.
Outdoor terraces in Vélez-Málaga will be allowed to remain open until two in the morning every day of the week until October 4th. The Department of Commerce and Industry of the City Council has decided to extend the special summer hours, which were initially set to end on September 15th, as announced by the councillor for the area, Beatriz Gálvez, at a press conference alongside the president of the Torre del Mar Merchants and Entrepreneurs Association (ACET), Javier Arcas.
The measure applies to the entire municipal area and arises from requests made by the merchant associations of Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar, which conveyed a positive assessment of the extended hours implemented during the summer months.
“The business associations themselves have conveyed a positive assessment of this initiative to us. Therefore, we have proposed to extend this summer schedule until October 4th, coinciding with the conclusion of the Real Feria de San Miguel de Vélez-Málaga,” Gálvez detailed.
The extension coincides with the weeks of highest activity in the municipality due to the celebration of the Real Feria de San Miguel. The councillor pointed out that the aim is for establishments to take advantage of the influx of people and the economic activity during these days.
“We understand that we must facilitate establishments, bars, and restaurants to take advantage of the movement of people and the economic activity generated during these days,” she stated.
Gálvez clarified that the extension must be compatible with residents' rest. In areas where disturbances to residents are reported, previous general hours may be reinstated. Controls will also be maintained to ensure compliance with the Municipal Civility and Coexistence Ordinance, especially regarding the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages outside authorized establishments and terraces.
“We are talking about a measure to support economic activity, but always from a standpoint of responsibility, respect, and coexistence,” the councillor explained.
The president of ACET expressed gratitude for the swift municipal response: the reply came practically within two days following the request from the group. Arcas highlighted that the good weather conditions still allow for the use of terraces during these weeks.
“From the Torre del Mar Merchants and Entrepreneurs Association, we are satisfied because we consider it necessary to extend this schedule, at least until the end of summer and the celebration of the Feria de San Miguel,” he stated.
The measure will be in effect until October 4th, the date when the Feria de San Miguel concludes. After that, the general hours established in municipal regulations will be reinstated.
