Rincón de la Victoria to Limit Fountain Hours Due to Anti-Social Use

The Town Hall of Rincón de la Victoria will restrict the operation of the ornamental fountain in the plaza del Agua to just two hours a day, from 10 PM to midnight, due to the inappropriate use made by some users.

The Town Hall of Rincón de la Victoria has decided to temporarily limit the operating hours of the ornamental fountain in the plaza del Agua, a measure that responds to the anti-social use that some people have been making of this facility in recent weeks.

According to the councillor for Works and General Services, Sergio Díaz, the fountain has been used for showering, washing surfboards or paddle boards, and even grooming pets, a situation that has repeatedly occurred despite prior warnings.

The councillor explained that "people who were misusing the fountain have been informed and warned numerous times, but the situation has continued to repeat itself, so we have ultimately been forced to adopt this temporary measure."

"The sand that bathers introduce into the facility can affect the fountain's operating system and cause breakdowns, leading to economic costs for the municipal coffers," noted Sergio Díaz.

With this measure, the fountain will remain operational exclusively between 10 PM and midnight. During the rest of the day, it will remain closed, as this is when most incidents occur, coinciding with the return of users from the beaches.

The mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado, expressed regret over having to make this decision: "It pains us especially because the plaza del Agua is a space frequently visited by families and a meeting and enjoyment place for many children during the summer. However, the anti-social behaviour of a minority forces us to implement a measure we would not have wanted to take."

The mayor has called for civic responsibility and reminded that "in a context where we must also be particularly sensitive to water consumption, it is essential that we all contribute to preserving these spaces."

The Town Hall hopes to restore the usual operating hours of the facility as soon as the inappropriate uses cease and circumstances allow. In the meantime, it reminds that the municipality's beaches have showers available for intended uses and reiterates its call for citizen collaboration to preserve the good condition of public spaces.
