Nerja awards the 2026 Tourist Distinctions on September 25 and names local athlete María Narváez as Tourist Ambassador. The day includes guided tours, folklore at the Balcony of Europe, and a concert by Merche in the Plaza de España.
Nerja celebrates the 25th of September the twentieth edition of Tourist Day, a day filled with cultural activities, recognitions, and a concert by Merche in the Plaza de España. The central event will take place in the Gardens of the Nerja Cave at 11:00 AM, featuring the awarding of the Tourist Ambassador title and the 2026 Tourist Distinctions.
The local athlete María Narváez will receive the recognition of Tourist Ambassador. The seven Tourist Distinctions will be awarded to Francisco Navas “El Churretero”, posthumously; the business owners of Plaza Tutti Frutti; José Cánovas; the Pastoral of the Neighbours Association of Las Protegidas; María del Carmen Morillo, representing the group of female workers in the shops of Nerja; Antonio Montesinos, a worker at the Nerja Cave; and the Canal Sur programme A Toda Costa.
The Councillor for Tourism, Ana María Muñoz, explained that the programme combines cultural, traditional, and tourist promotion activities. In addition to the concert, there will be guided tours around the town centre, a display of folklore at the Balcony of Europe in the afternoon, and a stand from the Tourist Office where white carnations will be distributed.
“This year marks its twentieth edition, fully established as one of the most important events in the Nerja tourist calendar, with which we aim to recognise individuals, groups, and entities that contribute to promoting our town and, at the same time, thank those who choose us as a tourist destination each year,” highlighted Ana María Muñoz.
The presentation of the day also included the vice president of AEHCOS, Damián Toboso, and the president of the Nerja Business Association, Raúl Rivas. The award ceremony in the Gardens of the Nerja Cave opens a day that continues into the night with the concert in the Plaza de España.
