The Nerja Governing Board has approved the basic project for the renovation of the municipal building located on Antonio Jiménez street, with an investment of 956,145 euros. The building will be renamed Alcalde Antonio Jiménez Gálvez.
The Nerja Town Hall has greenlit the renovation project for the old Fernández Olmo building, a municipal property located at number 2 Antonio Jiménez street. The project, which represents the second phase of the building's rehabilitation, has a budget of 956,145.03 euros and an execution period of ten months.
The mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has reported that the project will provide independent access to the upper floors and adapt the facilities for use. This action continues the work already carried out on the ground floor, which was executed to allocate space to the Employment Department of the Junta de Andalucía, where the new office of the Andalusian Employment Service (SAE) will be located.
In addition to the renovation, the building will change its name. It will be renamed Alcalde Antonio Jiménez Gálvez, in tribute to the first mayor of Nerja. Armijo has highlighted that this is “a just and deserved recognition to the first mayor of Nerja, a person very much loved and respected by the people of Nerja.” The mayor added that the building, located next to the street already named after Antonio Jiménez Gálvez, will provide an important service to citizens.
The agreement of the Governing Board also includes the initiation of procedures for hiring the drafting of the execution project, which will be carried out in phases and will serve as a basis for the subsequent tendering of the works. In this way, the Town Hall is advancing in the rehabilitation of a property that, after its complete renovation, will house municipal and administrative services.
The renovation of the Fernández Olmo is one of the most significant urban planning actions in the municipality, as it will allow the recovery of an emblematic building and equip it with new functionalities. The residents of Nerja will see how this space, which has been unused for years, becomes a reference point for citizen attention.
The ten-month execution period implies that, if the procedures are expedited, the works could begin throughout 2026 and finish in the first half of 2027. The Town Hall expects that the new SAE office on the ground floor will be operational once the allocation is completed, which will improve service for job seekers in the region.
The naming of the building as Alcalde Antonio Jiménez Gálvez represents a symbolic gesture towards local history, remembering the first mayor of democracy in Nerja. The current mayor has emphasized the importance of keeping alive the memory of those who contributed to the development of the municipality.
