Nerja Local Police has seized over a thousand counterfeit products in various operations against illegal street vending carried out in recent weeks at several locations in the municipality. The intervention is part of the monitoring and control measures maintained by the force to ensure compliance with regulations and protect local businesses.
The Councillor for Security and Transport, Francisco Arce, explained that 800 sports kits and around a hundred bags are the most numerous items among those seized. Sneakers, watches, beach sarongs, and caps have also been confiscated, all lacking the necessary authorisations for their sale.
Arce emphasised that these operations will continue to intensify in the coming weeks. "Our goal is to ensure coexistence, safety, and equal conditions for traders who operate legally in our town," the councillor stated.
The operation aims to protect consumer rights and prevent unfair competition faced by local establishments, especially during the peak tourist season. Illegal street vending is concentrated in high-traffic areas, such as the promenade and access to the beaches.
The councillor has highlighted the daily work of Local Police officers, who have intensified monitoring at points where this activity is detected. The interventions have been carried out in different phases over the past few weeks, although the exact locations and the number of identified vendors have not been disclosed.
The Nerja Town Hall reminds that unlicensed street vending is a violation of municipal and state regulations. The confiscated products are held for judicial review, and those affected may face financial penalties.
